very strong smell, superstrings in my blood

(Yes, I realize this is probably not the place for physics jokes like in the title, but I couldn't help it...)

Okay ladies, I need some help because I am seriously about to pitch my cup in the trash.

I've been using my Divacup for almost a year now (~9 months) and haven't really had any of the typical issues with insertion, size, etc. (in fact the Divacup is almost too short - I can barely reach the stem!) No major leaking issues, nothing like that. It works great for the most part. Except... )

So, what do I do? Am I doing something wrong? Is there something wrong with ME? Is there a secret magic treatment that will kill the smell without poisoning my friendly neighborhood vagina-bacteria? Is there a way to make my period-muck less stringy and more manageable?

PLEASE HELP. Thanks everyone.

ETA: In case it helps at all with figuring out why I smell so bad... um... I'm 22, definitely no STDs, no symptoms of any sort of UTI (and the smell is ONLY when I have the cup in - with a tampon in I don't smell at all so I don't think it's an infection if it doesn't affect me the rest of the time), drink only water, get plenty of iron... I really have no idea what else could be relevant/helpful, so if there's something relevant to ask, go for it in the comments and I'll do my best to answer.

ETA again: Oh! Also I read back several entries on the "cleaning - smells" tag, but here's the thing. I don't just have an occasional stinky period, it seems like EVERY ONE is worse than the last, but ONLY when I use the cup. Meanwhile, I don't have vinegar/tea tree oil/H2O2/isopropanol and don't want to buy a whole bottle of each just to try to use for this one thing. I'm allergic to citrus, so no lemon juice. And as for leaving it out in the sun... well, I live in a high school dormitory, in an apartment which has only skylights and no windows, on the fourth floor, in New Hampshire in the winter. So not only do I have zero private access to sunlight, but we don't have any sunlight this time of year anyway. Yeah. So other suggestions would be great which don't involve me having to spend a lot of money or needing access to something unusual...

Round-up.

I have read 74 books since my birthday.

I've uploaded a whole bunch of photos to my Flickr, including the ones I took in Seattle, which I haven't posted here yet.

I've decided to have a go at 365 - taking a photo every day for a year. No idea if I'll keep it up, but if I do should I post them here, do you think? Weekly? Monthly? Whenever I get around to it?

I found all my posters - does anyone want some posters from The Crow and/or Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula? I seem to have grown out of them. I'm keeping the Sandman/Death/Endless ones, though, you can't have those!

I found my Zippo. Even better, I remembered to buy fluid for it:)

A nice policeman signed the electoral roll form for me today, so as soon as I remember to post it I will be on my way to being a voter again.

I joined the Coburg Library, I have stuff to read again now! Was going to rejoin the City Library today, but I didn't have anything official-like with my address on it. I still have my old Yarra-Melbourne library card, but apparently they've split into Yarra and Melbourne now, and it's only good at Yarra libraries. Whatever those are.

Going out for food soon, then music. Because I can. Is it possible to hug an entire city?

The cup and camping

I'd just like to post to express my love for the divacup! And hopefully to convince anyone who's on the fence to give it a try.

I've been using it for a couple of years now. I remember when I first started to use it it wouldn't stay in place and would kind of lower itself and become INSANELY uncomfortable...but as I continued to use it it got more comfortable to the point where I can't even feel it anymore.

Of course, I still get leaks on my heavy days, but that's just due to me being lazy.

This summer I went on a camping trip to a really remote area without bathrooms or running water or anything like that. Five minutes before my friend came to pick me up, I realized that I got my period (it's nice and irregular like that)...so I took my divacup into the wilderness with me. I have to say...there is no way in hell I could have managed three days in the woods with pads or tampons. All I needed was a bottle of water and a five minute walk into the woods and I was set =)

So if I can manage to use this thing in the forest, you can manage to give it a try with plumbing!

*shudder*

I just sent off a job application - first one in a couple of years. There was a time when I was sending these out all the time, but this one almost killed me! I'm out of practise. Which is a good thing, I suppose :)

Mind you, I still write damn fine covering letters.

xkcd

So I'm buying Bear a few t-shirts from the xkcd website.

Two questions - does anyone have an idea how accurate the sizing it, is it fatty american, so a L equals an XL here? Have you ordered and if yes - what size?

I'm not quite sure on shipping yet - but if someone else wants something - it might be worth adding to our order. Yah - shipping to Aus appears to be $21 regardless of quantity. So iffen you want something.

Chairs and Shakespeare

Went shopping this morning.

Actually I went shopping yesterday as well and me and Megan had a day of chair shopping fail. We wanted to buy an ergonomic kneeling chair thingy. We started at OfficeWorks, staff at Officeworks had no idea what we were talking about. We went to a number of other furniture stores who all said - have you tried OfficeWorks.

More internet research and suggestion from Emily later - we found a shop in South Melbourne. So me and Emily went out there this morning. And purchased this chair.

http://www.badbacks.com.au/shop/product/1880/226/backsaver-vivid-kneeling-posture-chairs

It's hard to tell if they are useful yet, but they have a 30day warranty. So if the chair isn't effective I can take it back and get my money back. That was really what sold me, because you can't tell if these chairs will solve the problem without really testing them.

So far it isn't hurting my knees at all. My lower back is feeling a bit sore, but its a different kind of sore to normal and that is because the chair is pushing me into a different posture I'm not used to - so its wait and see and test it for a week.

And on a complete tangent - do my Shakespeare in the Gardens buddies wish to co-ordinate with regards to picnic tomorrow - otherwise we end up with 3 rounds of brie, 4 punnets of strawberries, a bucket of fruit and no bread :) Which actually isn't all that bad - but as its picnic to share - it my be fun to share the load.

I've gone to Vic market today, I've brought a blue brie, a Camembert and odd nice cheddar, I've also brought the ingredients to watermelon salad, a bunch of berries and cherries and some mystery fruit. (mangosteen I think its called). Emily is talking about baking something and I'm contemplating making blueberry muffins tomorrow. Halo said she was bringing the champagne. So someone might want to put their hand up for dips, or meats, or breads or something.

Friday of the first week back

This is one of those days where the gap between "things I should be doing" and "things I am doing" is only going to get broader and broader.

This is what I was doing just before this post.

Considering a Larger Cup

I have been using a small OrangeCup for a few months now and have been fairly successful with it. However, as I'm sure many of you have experienced, the small LadyCups have a very small capacity. I can get away with this, emptying the cup every 4 hours or so on my heavy days, but really I'd rather not have to. Additionally, this experience has made me realize that I must have a fairly long vagina (the cup, including the stem (untrimmed), goes all the way in and sometimes I have to bear down a lot to find the stem).

So, I'm wondering if I should be looking for a cup that is not only higher capacity, but is also long. I believe the large MeLuna with ball stem is about the same length as the small LadyCup (including the length of the stem, of course). Has anyone here used both a small lady and a large MeLuna successfully?

Of course, I'm not totally set on the MeLuna. If anyone has any suggestions for me I'd be glad to hear them.

Also, if anyone has comparison photos of the small LadyCup and large MeLuna, that would be really appreciated. I've looked and just can't seem to find this combination of cups together.

Thanks! :)

Tiggrr's 34th Birthday!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/34_%28number%29

I'm sure Halo can explain the maths on the above link.

I'm going to have a BBQ to celebrate my birthday - its on a Saturday, and yes, I realise it clashes with lots of things - but this is just a casual relaxed thing I won't be offended if you don't attend :) I'm thinking simple, fire up the BBQ and the DJ decks and relax in my backyard.

And actually - given it's me holding a party - probably watching the rain :)

When: Saturday 23rd January, from 7.30pm
Where: my place, call me if you need the address.
BYO: Booze and BBQ goodness, I'll provide some bread and salads.
RSVP: Because it is polite.

House rules: Respect the books and cats, clean up after yourself and don't leave your cigarette butts in my garden or I will get grumpy.

I won't be calling for kitchen wenches to show up early this year. I have a previous commitment and will be GMing for Fi at Arcanacon from 1-7, so I'll be doing food prep in the morning. This means, if you show up before 7ish, we won't be home :)

Totodile, Leaving?

My friend Totodile wanted to quit Job Corps and not come back after winter break, but then her brother talked her into staying (before we even left for break.)

She got into a conflict with her mother over the phone this week. Now her mother has told the center that Totodile has changed her mind about toughing it out and that she wants to quit—not true. Since she's 17 until May, her mother does get quite a bit of say as to whether she can stay or go. Her father died last Fall so he can't have a say.

So does anyone have an idea of how Totodile can get her mother's say over ruled and stay in the program, at least long enough to enroll in a college and go when a new semester starts?
